Brief Itinerary

Days 1 & 2 - COLOMBO (2 nts, The Kingsbury,1B, 2D ): Once you’ve cleared customs and collected your bag you will be greeted by our representative and then transferred to our hotel which overlooks the Indian Ocean; enjoy an official "welcome dinner". On Feb. 3 we have reserved seating to witness one of Sri Lanka's most colourful festivals, the Navam Perahera.

Days 3 & 4 - GALLE (2nts, Jetwing Lighthouse, 2B, 2D):  Drive down the coast to Galle, a World Heritage fortified town that may be the Tarshish of the Bible! Lunch &  guided walking tour within the walled fort. Stay in a coastal property created by famed architect Geoffrey Bawa. On Feb. 5 we go on a private whale watching cruise. This is whale migration season: watch for blue whales and sperm whales, along with dolphins. Return to our hotel with a stop to see the "stilt" fishermen". Enjoy a fun dinner within the fort tonight.

Day 5 - UDAWALAWE (1 nt, Grand Udawalawe, 1B, 1L, 1D):  Visit an elephant rehabilitation "transit home" whose goal is to ultimately release their orphaned elephants into the wilds of nearby Udawalawe National Park. Afternoon safari by jeep in Udawalawe National Park: possibly the best place in Asia to see herds of Asian elephants in the wild.

Day 6 - NUWARA ELIYA (1 nt, Grand Hotel, 1B, 1L, 1D):  Drive into the highlands, much of which are classified by UNESCO as a super biodiveristy hotspot! Stay in a "hill station" in tea plantation country.

Days 7 & 8 - KANDY (2 nts, Kandy House, 2B, 2L, 1D):  Visit a tea plantation then take one of the most scenic train journeys in the world to Kandy. Kandy is hte most venerated place of worship for Buddhists in Sri Lanka. Visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic which protects a sacred relic of the Buddha. Visit the Royal Botanical Gardens with expert botanist Mr. Palipana. Enjoy an exlusive cultural show at our hotel.

Days 9, 10 & 11 - MATALE & DAMBULLA (3 nts, Signature by Amaya, 3B, 2L, 3D):  Visit the Matale Heritage Centre, the impressive home of Mr. Ena De Silva, social activist, prominent Sri Lankan and diva of Batik art in Sri Lanka. Visit a nearby spice garden to learn about the growing & processing of Sri Lanka's famous product. Explore the ancient Dambulla Rock Cave Temples with their 2000 year old frescos, carved stone Buddhas and mysterious ambiance. Experience the peaceful countryside with a "village trek" that involves walking by a scenic reservoir, going on an ox-cart ride and taking a boat ride across a lake, all the while observing many aspects of village life. Visit a local school. Witness an exclusive marital arts performance by Master Sumedha and his students. Master Sumedha has resurrected this ancient art form.

Days 12, 13 & 14 - SIGIRIYA, ANURADHAPURA & WILPATTU NATIONAL PARK (3nts, Ulagalla Resort, 3B, 1L):  Climb stairs to the top of Sigiriya, once the 5th century bastion and palce of King Kasyapa. Engage with locals on a morning cycling trip among lush paddy field and traditional farms. Visit Anuradhapura, the earliest capital of Sri Lanka and one of the greatest ancient cities of the world. See the2200 year old tree said to be a sapling from the tree under which the Buddha atained enlightenment! Also see the temples during evening prayer time. Finally, spend Feb. 15 on safari in Wilpattu National Park. This park is less-travelled than others, and it protects deer, elephant, wild boar, slot bears and leopards! We will be joined by Mr. Namal Kamalgoda, one of Sri Lanka's most celebrated wildlife and nature photographers.

Days 15 & 16 - COLOMBO (2 nts, The Kingsbury, 2B, 1D):  Stop at the ancient trading port of Puttalam enroute to Colombo. On Feb. 17 we tour Colombo including a visit to the Bawa Museum and lunch in the restored Old Dutch Hospital complex. Enjoy our Farewell Dinner.

Day 17 - DEPART (1B):  Transfer to the airport marking the end of an amazing adventure!
