This outlines a journey undertaken by two friends who travelled through France in May 2015. They were attending a conference in Lyon and wanted to see more of the country.  They chose moderate accommodations. Looking for value, they joined small-group tours to see Paris and Versailles (max 6-8 people). They explored Normandy and Provence by car, linking each area by high-speed train. This comprehensive trip took in the sites of Paris, Versailles, Normandy and Provence over 13 days, plus the 6-day conference.

This sample trip offers history, culture, and self-drive touring.

Temperatures are pleasant and their are fewer crowds. Summer is also a great time; it can be quite hot in southern France and August can be very busy as many Europeans take their holidays at this time.
