Day 1 - Arrive Belize City; Maya Mountains

Day 1 - Arrive Belize City; Maya Mountains

You'll be met on arrival and transferred to the Mountain Pine Forest region, near the border with Guatemala (if you have extra time, a visit across the border to the famous Mayan site of Tikal is possible). Stay 4 nights in a private cabana, part of a 20-room luxury resort nestled in the lush forested mountains. A full breakfast is included daily. (1st night in the Maya Mountains)

Days 2, 3 & 4 - Maya Mountains

Days 2, 3 & 4 - Maya Mountains

Fill your days with great adventures, starting with a full-day privately guided trip to the Mayan site of Caracol and the Rio Frio Cave & Pools. Engage with the locals as you go, learning of the Mestizo culture (a mix of Maya and Spanish). Caracol is the largest archeological site in Belize and is a complex of temples, ballcourts and other significant sites. On a 1/2-day tour you can visit Barton Creek on a private excursion where you'll explore a cave - a significant archaeological site of the Maya - by canoe! On your last day, join a "shared" tour (up to 6 people) for a jungle trek in the Tapir Mountain Nature Reserve leading to the "Cave of the Stone Sepulcher", one of the most impressive caves in the Maya lowland. This is quite an adventurous excursion with some swimming, climbing and caving involved. Expert guides, flashlights and hard hats are all part of the program. Other excursions are possible in the area, including visits to the interesting site of Xunantunich, if you prefer. (3 more nights in the Maya Mountains, B daily, 2L)

Day 5 - To Ambergris Caye

Day 5 - To Ambergris Caye

Your private vehicle will take you to the Belize airport for the air transfer to Ambergris Caye. Stop at the renowned Belize Zoo, as well as for lunch, on the way. When you land on Ambergris Caye you'll be met and transferred to your plantation-style hotel which has 42 rooms over 10 acres, as well as a white sand beach and tropical gardens. Spend 5 nights at one of the island's best hotels. Breakfast is included daily. (Note: While the beach is lovely, the seagrass offshore does not necessarily make for great swimmng from the beach. Seagrass is not cleared from the water as it is integral to the marine environment and the barrier reef. For this reason, we have chosen a property with a lovely pool for when you feel like a dip).  (1st night Ambergris Caye, B, L)

Days 6, 7, 8 & 9 - Ambergris Caye

Days 6, 7, 8 & 9 - Ambergris Caye

Enjoy 4 days for relaxing, diving, snorkelling, sailing, fishing, kayaking, or windsurfing. The barrier reef is the second longest in the world and it offers wonderful snorkelling and SCUBA diving. Trips to nearby Caye Caulker and the mainland to visit wildlife reserves or other Mayan ruins are easy to plan. (4 more nights Ambergris Caye, 4B)

Day 10 - Depart Belize

Day 10 - Depart Belize

Enjoy breakfast. You'll be transferred to the airport in time for your flight to Belize City where you will connect to your flight home.  (B)

Cost

Any prices we list are approximate; they can change with exchange rate flucuations or due to any change you might make as you customize this program. Prices will vary based on the time of year and level of experience you are looking for. Please contact us for more information.

Suggested time of year: The drier season runs from late November to late April (give or take). Christmas and Easter fall during this time: prices may be higher and availability is often hard to find. Cool air occasionally dips down from the north around. January/February. It doesn't last long and shouldn't stop you from doing anything, but you may want a warm layer just in case. It is rainier and hotter between June & November, with Hurricanes possible, historically later in this time frame, but this is very difficult to predict.

Sample cost (2014 rates): US$ 6,600, including single supplements nightly, private touring and transfers for 1 person, some shared excursions, local flights to/from San Pedro, daily breakfast and taxes/fees.
