Founded in 1993, explora is a travel company that owns and operates hotels, in 7 remote destinations of South America.

Explora hotels have been purposely designed as a base from which to explore the remote territories of South America. They each respond to the unique beauty and characteristics of their location.

It is important to leave all your daily concerns behind, so these luxury hotels are all inclusive: explorations, food, beverage, and transport.

They propose a new way of traveling based on in-depth exploration of the surroundings, the luxury of the essential and a sustainable development.

Their explorations are what make them unique, that’s why they are constantly developing new routes. For this year, they offer over 2.236 miles of routes and more than 100 different explorations.

Explora Patagonia

Explora actively introduces travelers to the great scenery of South America, through a well prepared exploration program. Our base is a hotel built for linking man to temporary space – present and past- and the mysteries of nature. explora Patagonia is located at the center of the Torres del Paine National Park, the heart of Patagonia, declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

On the shores of the turquuoise Lake Pehoe, it has breathtaking views of the Paine ridge and the granite towers.

Its construction is based around essential luxuries, allowing the traveler to inhabit the remote location in its essence without distractions. Wood plays a fundamental role in its design, with species such as lenga, cypress and almendrillo.

The 49 rooms of explora Patagonia are designed to take full advantage of the silence, privacy, and spaciousness of the surrounding landscape, ensuring deep rest after a long day of exploration. At explora, they actively seek disconnection from everyday routine, which is why their rooms are not equipped with televisions or Wi-Fi, which is only available in the hotel’s common areas.

Their massage room and pool area are located 100 meters away from the main building, connected by a sloped wood path. It is equipped with a heated, covered pool, sauna, and four open-air jacuzzis with views to the Paine River. Inside, you can choose from their essential oils massages: therapeutic, relaxation, energetic, and more.

Explora Patagonia has over 50 different guided hikes and horseback rides, in groups of maximum 8 travelers. All their explorations have different difficulty levels ranging from easy to expert, and different durations, half day or full day.

One of the most popular circuit is the mystic W that goes around the trails that surround the Paine Massif. This circuit requires at least five days for completion. These explorations to the Torres base, the Grey glacier and the Valle del Francés (Frenchman’s Valley) follow part of this circuit. A good option is to combine some of these explorations with others to less familiar places within the Park, either walking or horseback riding.

Explora's walks have different length and difficulty levels.  Those that take the full day give you the privilege of having lunch in the middle of nature, while those that take half a day allow you to come back to explora Patagonia to make a different exploration during the afternoon. Horseback riding is meant for beginners, advanced, and expert riders; therefore, there are no excuses for not living the Patagonian experience riding through the Park along our gauchos.

Explora Atacama

The explora base is a hotel built for linking man to temporary space- present and past- and the mysteries of nature.  explora Atacama is located in the Ayllu de Larache (initially a kin-based community of the ancient Aymara people), near the village of San Pedro de Atacama.

The 17-hectare (42-acre) grounds comprise 20 indigenous parcels, some with timeworn pathways and buildings that explora is committed to preserving out of a profound respect for the area’s original inhabitants.

The explora massage center is located near the hotel, in a restored Colonial adobe-straw building. Turi Puri, which in Kunza, the language of the area’s early inhabitants, means “House of Water,” invites you to discover a new level of inner peace, outer harmony, and revitalized energy.

Hot Springs

Over 15 years ago, explora bought the Puritama Hot Springs, whose innovative architecture has gained critical acclaim.

8,000 hectares (approximately 19,770 acres) of land - the area is currently in the process of being declared a nature reserve that represents a fundamental part of the Fundación explora, a private, nonprofit foundation created by explora to promote and develop the natural and cultural heritage of the areas where we are based: Atacama, Patagonia and Rapa Nui, or Easter Island.

Endowed with one of the clearest skies in the world, Atacama offers a spectacular view of the night skies. This special attribute prompted explora to open their own private observatory, the largest of its kind in the country.

They offer nightly viewings, depending on weather conditions. Be sure you also include some celestial explorations during your stay.

San Pedro de Atacama and its surrounding areas are one of Chile’s most enigmatic territories. The diversity of the landscape is one of the most popular attractions. Aware of this, explora takes our travelers to explore every corner. Just to mention a few experiences that explora Atacama proposes, you'll ride horses through the red land plains and huge sand dunes, characteristic of one of the driest deserts in the world, visit turquoise lagoons that are located over 4,000 meters (13,123 f.a.s.l.) in the highlands, walk through geysers, and follow green riverbeds in an area where water is a limited resource.

Either on foot, horseback riding, or bike –including high mountain ascents and astronomical sessions– over 40 explorations take our travelers to the cultural richness of this fascinating territory. Explora explorations are always led by a competent guide from their School of Guides and are made up of groups of up to eight travelers.  They have different length and difficulty levels.  The altitude of these explorations ranges between 2,800 (9,186 f.a.s.l.)  and over 5,000 meters above sea level (16.404 f.a.s.l.) ; consequently, some of them need prior acclimatization. For safety reasons, high mountain hiking requires a minimum of two night acclimatization so that travelers can get used to high altitudes and then scale up slowly towards higher mountain peaks.

Rapa Nui

Explora Rapa Nui

To travel is to spend time, to arrive and to live. Architecture is permanence, freedom and safety. explora actively introduces travelers to the great scenery of South America, through a well prepared exploration program. Their base is a hotel built for linking man to temporary space -present and past- and the mysteries of nature.

Located 8 km from Hanga Roa, on a 9.6 km2 plot of land, unsuitable for agriculture and containing no archaeological remains, explora Rapa Nui is located in a privileged location from which to explore the island. Explora proudly carries LEED certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design).

The 30 rooms of Explora Rapa Nui are designed to take full advantage of the silence, privacy, and spaciousness of the surrounding landscape, ensuring deep rest after a long day of exploration. At explora, you'll seek disconnection from everyday routine, which is why explora rooms are not equipped with televisions or Wi-Fi, which is only available in the hotel’s common areas.

Located inside the complex is a pool area, complemented by a jacuzzi, sauna and massage area, all perfect for recovering from the wear and tear of a long day of exploration.

Rapa Nui, the most remote inhabited island in our planet, is located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. It has been the home for an enigmatic civilization whose traditions have charmed travelers for over 200 years.

With over 20 explorations, either on foot, bike riding, or on a boat, explora offers our travelers a deep exploration experience that includes visiting places that are even unknown for some locals and feeling the history of the Rapa Nui culture with its landscape and archeological remains.

The explorations in Easter Island have cultural shades, are always led by a local guide trained at explora's School of Guides, and are made in groups of a maximum of eight travelers.  They include hikes and bike explorations among archaeological remains, volcanoes, beaches, prairies, and cliffs as well as boat trips or snorkeling explorations where you'll explore under the world’s most pristine sea waters.

Our travelers have the option of choosing different explorations every day.  These explorations have different lengths and difficulty levels.
