Summary

SUMMARY:

Travel with the great guides rom Wayo Africa. "Wayo" means footprint in Swahili and with Wayo you'll tread lightly, staying in well-located camps that offer comfortable beds, tents with attached bathrooms, and wholesome food. "Footprint" symbolizes getting closer to Africa: you'll get out of the vehicle as much as possible and explore Africa from the ground level. "Footprint" also means getting in touch with the local people: you'll meet the locals and learn about Tanzania's diverse cultures. Experiencing Africa is about so much more than just wildlife viewing. Top guides, great locations and a great price are an unbeatable combination!

Brief Itinerary

Itinerary

DAY 1

Arrive into Tanzania with a meet and greet before transferring to the Katambuga House overnight. [Katambuga House, 1 night, D,B]

DAYS 2 & 3

Pick up after breakfast and road transfer to Tarangire National Park. After the Serengeti, Tarangire has the greatest concentration of wildlife in Tanzania and in the dry season the Tarangire River is a magnet for thirsty wildlife. Large herds of elephants and migratory wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, impala, gazelle, hartebeest and eland gather and not surprisingly the predators follow. This is also the one place in Tanzania where dry-country antelope such as oryx and gerenuk are regularly spotted. Tarangire is also known for its spectacular baobab trees, and its breathtaking views of the Masaai Steppe and the mountains to the south. Enjoy twice daily game drives and in the evening, sit on your personal veranda outside your thatched roof tent, watching the animal movement at the watering hole. [Tarangire Safari Lodge, 2 nights, FB]

DAY 4

Game drive into the south of Lake Manyara National Park. The landscape features acacia woodlands, water forests, baobab strewn cliffs, algae-streaked hot springs, swamps and the lake itself. Manyara has the largest concentration of baboons anywhere in the world and the lions here are also renowned for their tree climbing. Enjoy various game drives and the afternoon at the Endabash riverbed. Dinner under the stars and a night game drive. [Manyara Green Camp, 2 nights FB]

DAY 5

Take a lakeshore walking safari this morning before an afternoon game drive exploring the far corners of the Manyara. Overnight. [Manyara Green Camp]

DAY 6

Morning game drive out of Manyara to the Ngorongoro Highlands. Highlights today: Manyara's treetop walkway and a walk or mountain bike ride in the local village of Mto Wa Mbu. Surrounded by Tanzania’s highlands, this UNESCO-listed crater is said to be the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera. Game drive your way to camp. [Sanctuary Crater Camp, 1 night, FB]

DAYS 7 & 8

Morning game drive in Ngorongoro Crater then game drive into the Central portion of the Serengeti National Park where you'll stay for the next two nights. This picture-perfect landscape is characterised by endless stretches of savannah-covered open plains, interspersed by rocky outcrops of granite, scattered with acacia woodlands and covered in a network of rivers and streams. The Central Serengeti forms part of the great wildebeest and zebra migration and provides an ideal habitat for a variety of wildlife. [Banagi Green Camp, 2 nights, FB]

DAYS 9 & 10

Game drive into the northern region of Serengeti National Park. Over the next few days, enjoy twice daily game drives or add in a walking safari (not included) to change it up a bit. [Kogatende Green Camp, 2 nights, FB]

Day 11

Game drive to Kogatende airstrip then fly to Arusha. Transfer to Kilimanjaro International airport after lunch.
