Brief Itinerary

Sept. 23 - Bishkek, Krygyzstan (1 nt, Hotel Park Plaza, 1D/welcome dinner).  You’ll be welcomed by our support team and professional guide and transferred to the Hotel Park Plaza. With our professional guide, we visit one of Central Asia’s most fascinating markets and see the sites around Ala Too square. Later, gather for our Welcome Dinner.

Sept. 24 & 25 - Bishkek & Fly to Tashkent, Uzbekistan (2 nts, Lotte Tashkent Palace Hotel, 2B, 1L, 2D). We drive to see the remains of the ancient city of Balasagun.  You may climb the spiralling staircase to gain wonderful views of the surrounding countryside and the Tien Shan mountains. Enjoy an al fresco lunch as guests of a Kyrgyz family, followed by an exclusive horse show arranged just for us. An early evening flight takes us to Tashkent, Uzbekistan where we transfer to our hotel. On Sept. 25, we spend the day exploring Tashkent with our guide, taking in traditional neighbourhoods and the modern city. 

Sept. 26 & 27 - Samarkand (2 nts, Grand Samarkand Superior Hotel, 2B, 2D). Travel by high speed train to Samarkand, one of the oldest inhabited cities in central Asia. See the incredible mosques and madrassas, an observatory and visit the oldest winery in the country for a tasting. Visit Urgut and its authentic bazaar and an artisan family. 

Sept. 28 & 29 - Bukhara (2 nts, Asia or Divan Begi Hotel, 2B, 1L, 2D). Drive through Silk Road villages to Bukhara. Meet the locals as we go, visiting a traditional ceramics school. Discover the "living museum" of Bukhara with its domed mosques and mausoleums, markets and classic architecture.

Sept. 30 & Oct. 1 - Khiva (2 nts, Orient Star or Asia Hotel, 2B, 2D/farewell dinner). Drive across a corner of the Kizilkum desert to Khiva, another Silk Road city. We stop enroute to visit with Kazakh nomads. In Khiva go on a walking tour and explore the ancient city.

Oct. 2 - Tashkent (1 nt, Lotte Tashkent Palace Hotel, B, D/farewell dinner). Fly back to Tashkent. The afternoon is for your own explorations until we gather for our farewell dinner.

Oct. 3 - Depart (1B ): This morning you will be transfered to the airport.

Inclusions: complete pre-departure information and meeting held in Calgary, trip handbook and miniguide, regional flights (Bishkek-Tashkent and Khiva-Tashkent); all accommodation on a twin-share basis; all meals as listed by B/breakfast, L/lunch, D/dinner; services of professional English-speaking guide in each country; all transfers and touring as listed, including any entrance fees or local transport fees that apply; escorted by Denell Falk with a minimum of 8 guests.

Exclusions: international return flights to Bishkek, and from Tashkent back to your home city; all items of a personal nature including drinks/bar expenses, tips, souvenirs, laundry, internet charges, etc.; optional travel insurance; gratuities to local staff; any activities and excursions not specified; visas to enter Kyrgyzstan (Canadians are exempt for stays under 60 days); visas to enter Uzbekistan (US$90),  any increases due to circumstances beyond our control i.e. park fee increases, fuel surcharges, currency fluctuations.
