In her twenty plus years at the Calgary Zoo, Cathy Gaviller spent twelve years as a Zookeeper, with five in animal shipping and exhibit design, helping to plan the animal exhibits in the Zoo’s Destination Africa, and most recently has switched from the care of animals to the care of zookeepers! Leading a team of twenty zookeepers and gardeners, she oversees Destination Africa, the Discovery Centre, Australia/Nocturnal and the Conservatory. Cathy is an avid outdoor and nature enthusiast spending her free time bird watching, hiking, camping, gardening, and canoeing. She especially enjoys the opportunity to share the wonders of nature with her two children, and to foster in them a true appreciation for all its flora and fauna. Cathy co-led the August '02 Zoofari to Kenya, led family trips to Kenya in '03 and '04, hosted a group through Kenya & Tanzania in September '05, and led a small group into Botswana in January '06. Her next adventures will take her to Botswana in Jan. '08 and Ecuador in July '08.
