Don Hladiuk

Don has over 30 years of astronomical observing experience and has been leading (and co-leading) astronomical tours since Comet Halley in 1986. He witnessed his first eclipse at Hecla Island, Manitoba, in 1979. Since then he has successfully observed 11 total solar eclipses plus two annular eclipses in locations such as Indonesia, Mexico, Chile, India, Curacao, Turkey, Zambia and Australia. Don, co-leader Glenn Hawley, and an enthusiastic group of sky-watchers recently witnessed the Venus Transit, a truly rare astronomical event, from the shores of the Nile in Egypt. Most recently they hosted an enthusiastic group that witnessed another spectacular eclipse in Turkey. Don is a past president of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, Calgary Centre. You may have seen Don's eclipse photos in Sky and Telescope and SkyNews magazines. For the past 20 years, Don has had a regular radio spot on CBC radio describing monthly Sky Highlights to southern Albertans. Don will again host a group of travellers to attempt to witness the solar eclipse in China in Aug. '08.
