Brian Keating previously held the position "Head of Conservation Outreach" at the Zoo, which enabled him to raise money and then spend it on environmental and conservation projects around the world. Brian is a busy man! He’s been leading groups on nature based travel for three decades, exploring some of the best wildlife areas on the Planet. He is also Adjunct Assistant Professor of Anthropology at the U of Calgary, a weekly guest on both Calgary and Edmonton’s CBC Radio, and for many years, was a regular on the Discovery Channel, using his own wilderness adventure and wildlife filming.  In high demand as an international speaker, he presents at some 50 events a year.  Brian's style would best be described as buoyant, fast-paced, humorous, and always uplifting and meaningful.  His talks have proven themselves the highlight of many conferences and special events.  He's also written five award-winning children’s books celebrating nature. He's a pilot, a naturalist, scuba diver, and mountaineer. He is proud to be an Honorary Chief of the vilage of Dompie in Ghana, West Africa. This village is the gateway for the Wechiau Hippo Sanctuary which is supported by the Calgary Zoo Conservation Fund.

Brian has travelled throughout all seven continents, including many expeditions to remote Antarctica and well over 30 trips to Africa (we've lost count!). On each trip he shares his knowledge and passion for all things wild with the infectious enthusiasm he has become famous for. His wife, Dee, is a physician and keen naturalist who always joins him on his adventures.

Next up: Brian will be a guest naturalist on two Antarctic expeditions and on our Maritime Expedition cruise. He hosts two very special safaris combining Southern Tanzania and Rwanda in August and September 2012.
