Kilimanjaro calls many adventurers to its slopes every year. Trekking to the peak takes you from the plains of Africa through rainforest, heather and moorland, and finally to the glaciated peak that rises above the clouds at 5,895m. Reaching the summit is both a physical and a mental challenge.
There are several routes to chose from. We recommend the camping routes, where quality South African and American equipment - new each season - is used (tents, sleeping mats, mess tents, etc.). As members of IMEC (International Mountain Explorers Connection) and the IPPA (International Porters Protection Association) our outfitter ensures that all porters and staff are treated fairly, supplied with appropriate personal equipment and clothing and that they are paid appropriately.
Our guides have years of experience on all major routes. A high guide/climber ratio ensures a safe ascent. Local guides are highly trained in all aspects, including first aid. Their safe and responsible practices have resulted in a 95% success rate (the industry average is just over 60%). We add in an extra day on the mountain for acclimatization, to further improve your chances.
To complete your trip to Africa, consider adding a safari before or after your Kilimanjaro climb! Tanzania is home to incredible safari destinations, including the famous Serengeti National Park, home to the annual migration of millions of wildebeest and zebra.
Civilized Adventures offers group safaris throughout the year and has years of experience planning tailored adventures to Tanzania for independent travellers. Click below to see what group trips may be available to this destination or contact us to begin planning your tailored adventure...
