Costa Rica Sample Itinerary (TCA-CR2)

Remember: this is a sample itinerary based on our recommended highlights for a trip of this length. We have years of experience sending people to Costa Rica and so should you have differing interests or more time we are ready and able to create your own tailored itinerary.

Brief Itinerary
Day 1 - ARRIVE SAN JOSE: Meet and greet by your guide and transfer to your hotel, a short distance from downtown San Jose.
Days 2 & 3 - POAS VOLCANO NATIONAL PARK & BAJOS DEL TORO (2B, 2L, 2D): Paved roads take you through picturesque towns and spectacular mountain scenery to your lodge that lies between Juan Castro Blanco and Poas Volcano National Parks (~90 min. drive). Next day enjoy a guided outdoor activity (options may include hiking, horseback rides, river rafting, mountain biking, or going on a zipline tour of the forest canopy) and perhaps visit the town of Bajos del Toro which sits in the shadow of Poas Volcano.
Days 4 & 5 - RINCON DE LA VIEJA (2B): Drive to Rincon de la Vieja area in northern Costa Rica, home to three national parks: Rincon de La Vieja, Santa Rosa and Guanacaste, as well as Miravalles protected zone. Spend the next day exploring with a guide. Enjoy natural hot springs, virgin rainforests, jungle waterfalls, and a unique environment that comprises dry savannah, lush rainforest, and mountains, all hosting a wide variety of wildlife and unique plant species. Activities include hiking, horseback rides, tubing, mountain biking and waterfall swimming...or try a mud path at one of the thermal springs. The area outside the parks is traditional ranch country so you may see open fields, cattle and cowboys.
Days 6, 7 & 8 - BEACH. (3B): Transfer to the Pacific Coast for 3 days of RnR at Playa Hermosa or Playa Concha . On Day 7 embark on an exciting half day “Outrigger Adventure” where you’ll paddle in Hawaiian canoes (outriggers) on the waters of the Pacific Ocean, an outing that includes snorkelling options.
Day 9 - SAN JOSE (B): Return to San Jose, for your last night in Costa Rica. (Can be adjusted if you have flights from nearby Liberia airport).
Day 10 - HOMEWARD (B): Transfer to the airport for your flights home.
