Remember: this is a sample itinerary based on our recommended highlights for a trip of this length. We have years of experience sending people to Jordan and so should you have differing interests or more time we are ready and able to create your own tailored itinerary.
Day 1 - ARRIVE AMMAN: Meet our representative on arrival; transfer to your hotel.
Days 2 & 3 - AMMAN & JERASH (2B): Tour Jordan’s capital city. See Qasr Abed in Wadi Seer, the Citadel, the Archaeological Museum, Roman Theater, Folklore Museum, the souks (bazaar) and the modern city.
On Day 3, drive to Jerash, the world’s best-preserved Roman provincial city. Attend the Roman Army & Chariot Experience show in the Hippodrome. Continue to the ancient city of Um Qais, overlooking the Golan Heights and the Sea of Galilee. Return to Amman.
Day 4 - PETRA (B): Drive to Mt. Nebo, from which Moses reputedly saw the Promised Land. Take in views over the Jordan Valley, Jericho and the hills of Judea. See the Byzantine mosaics of ancient pilgrimage churches. See Madaba, another important Byzantine centre. Arrive Petra. Join the“Petra by Night” candlelight walk into Petra (Mon/Wed/Thurs).
Days 5, 6, 7 & 8 - PETRA & WADI RUM (4B, 1L, 1D):
Day 5: Explore Petra ruins. Join in a Petra Kitchen cooking class.
Day 6: Hike up al-Madras, a beautiful alternate entry to visit the High Place of Sacrifice (Wadi Farasa), the Great Emple and Byzantine Church.
Day 7: Visit “Little Petra” (Siq al Barid); hike to Baidha Neolithic Site and visit one of the world’s first agricultural villages (9000 years old). Hike cross-country through Wadi Merwan and enter Petra’s “back door”; climb ad-Deir, Petra’s largest carved façade.
Day 8: desert jeep safari to fabled Wadi Rum with picnic lunch.
Days 9, 10 & 11 - DEAD SEA (3B): Follow an ancient caravan route to the Dead Sea. Visit the Shobak Crusader Castle and Dhana Bedouin Village. Tour the recently excavated 3rd century site of Bethany. Earliest Christians believed Jesus was baptized here, and it certainly has tremendous historical importance. Enjoy 2 full days at leisure on the shores of the Dead Sea. Float in the sea, try a spa treatment, enjoy sunsets. The lights that emerge across the sea as the sun sets are those of Jerusalem and Bethlehem.
Day 12 - DEPART or EXTEND (B): Transfer to Amman’s airport.
