South Africa Sample Itinerary (TCA-SA-2)
(12 days/11 nights)

Remember: this is a sample itinerary based on our recommended highlights for a trip of this length. We have years of experience sending people to South Africa and so should you have differing interests or more time we are ready and able to create your own tailored itinerary.

• Discover the stunning scenery of the Garden Route.
• Safari in open 4WD vehicles with professional guides.
• Explore Tsitsikamma National Park and Knysna.
• Take the Outeniqua Choo Tjoe Steam Train from Mossel Bay to George.
• Visit Oudtshoorn where options include riding an ostrich or visiting the Cango Caves!
• Sample local wines at vineyards surrounding picturesque Franschoek.
• Visit Cape Point and Boulders Beach from scenic Cape Town.

Day 1 - PORT ELIZABETH & ON SAFARI (D): Connect through Johannesburg to Port Elizabeth; meet our representative who drives you to your safari lodge (~1hr drive) for a 2-night stay. Afternoon safari activity is included today.
Day 2 - ON SAFARI (B, L, D): Get a taste of what “safari” is all about in open 4x4 vehicles with professional safari guides. Please see P. 2 for more on the safari experience.
Days 3 & 4 - GARDEN ROUTE/KNYSNA (2B): Morning safari activity then drive to the coast. Visit Tsitsikamma National Park. Options in Knysna include: walk part of the spectacular Otter Trail; boat trip on Plettenberg Bay in search of dolphins and other marine life, visit Featherbed Nature Reserve, go on a leisurely mountain bike ride or a forest walk. Options here and throughout depend on your interest and may involve a fee payable locally.
Days 5 & 6 - GARDEN ROUTE/OUDTSHOORN (2B, 2D): Day 5 is a travel day. Stops include Mossel Bay (to take the Outeniqua Choo Tjoe Steam Train to George). Drive over the pass to Oudtshoorn. Day 6 is a free day for you to fill as you choose to, with the help of your guide. Consider a hot air balloon ride, seeing the Cango Caves, or a trip up Swartberg Pass.
Days 7 & 8 - FRANSCHOEK (2B): Travel via Swellendam to Hermanus; watch for whales along the coast (June-Nov.). Continue to Franschoek in the heart of wine country. Take Day 8 to explore, with your guide/driver, and savour the vineyards, estates and enjoy fine cuisine. Lunch suggestion: the Moyo restaurant in Stellenbosch’s Spier Estate.
Day 9 - CAPE TOWN (B): Relax or explore some more, then continue to Cape Town. Walk with your guide up Lions Head for views over the city.
Days 10 & 11 - CAPE TOWN (2B, 1D): Take a full day to drive around the Cape to Cape Point with your guide; stop at Boulders Beach to see the penguins. Option: Martha Williams Cooking Experience for dinner. Day 11 includes a boat trip to Robben Island, the amazing Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens; and the cable car ride up Table Mountain - spectacular at sunset. Farewell Dinner is included tonight.
Day 12 - DEPART OR EXTEND (B): Transfer to the airport.
