Horseback Safaris offer travelers an exciting way to experience Africa. While on horseback you are able to get closer to wildlife without disturbing their natural behavior.
Here are some general details about Horseback Safaris we offer:
- Luxury Tented Safari Camps.
- Safaris available to all levels of riders.
- Small groups. (usually no more than 7 on one ride)
- Two professional guides accompany every ride to ensure safety and share their knowledge of the wildlife and environment.
- Rides ranging in length from 2 to 6 hours, traveling at varying speeds over a diverse range of terrain.
- All meals included.
- Excellent game viewing opportunities.
- Watch for elephant, giraffe, zebra, buffalo, lion, wildebeest, hyena, tsessebe, reedbuck, red lechwe, impala, kudu, jackal, baboon, vervet monkey warthog, mongoose, steenbok, spring hare, porcupine, crocodile and more.
- Horseback Safaris are offered in South Africa, Botswana, and Kenya.
Sample riding safari in Botswana’s Okavango Delta:
Day 1-2: Travel days. Two overnight flights take you to Europe and from there to Johannesburg. You can connect through to Maun in Botswana or overnight in Johannesburg to break the journey.
Day 3: Arrive in Maun, Botswana, then fly into the Okavango Delta. Overnight at our luxury tented camp overlooking a seasonal flood plain.
Days 4-9: Spend the next six days in the unique eco-system that is the delta, exploring on morning and afternoon rides. One day ride to a “fly camp”, a more basic bush-style camp where horses are tied to picket lines and you sleep under the stars under mosquito nets or in a dome tent. The other 5 nights are based at our luxury tented camp.
Ride amongst giraffe or zebra, track larger animals such as elephant…experience Africa from a perspective shared by few.
In addition to morning and afternoon rides with our qualified guides, these activities are offered from camp: day and night safari drives, walking excursions accompanied by a guide, or even water-based activities if water levels permit.
Day 10: Bid farewell and fly to Johannesburg and homeward. To extend your holiday consider visiting Victoria Falls for 2 nights before returning home. Botswana can also be combined with Namibia or Zambia, or you could discover South Africa’s Cape Town and nearby winelands.
