Germany & Austria:
Along the Blue Danube
(10 days)

Tour Overview

The journey along the Danube between Passau and Vienna is actually one of Europe's most famous cycle routes. And with a hugely diverse range of both landscapes and cultural and historical sites, this route covers, without doubt, the most interesting stretch of this great river. Pretty farms, imposing castles, glorious abbeys, steep vineyards and fertile plains all line the banks and provide wonderful contrasts as we pedal from one hotel to the next.

Using 21-gear 'Unibike' touring bikes with a rear pannier bag for carrying day things, we shall cycle 340 kilometres in 7 days, an average of 48km per cycling day. Graded easy, this is an easy-paced introduction to cycle touring; the route mostly runs alongside the Danube (in the valley) and is almost completely flat. It is 95% asphalt cycle path and the remaining 5% is well-maintained gravel path. A local Explore leader/guide cycles with the group on each day. Luggage is transferred from point to point by hotel vehicles. On this trip vehicle back-up is not provided whilst cycling as we follow cycle paths.
