Cycle and Cruise Croatia

Croatia: Cycle and Cruise
(8 days)

Tour Overview

Croatia is without doubt one of Europe's most fascinating countries. Independent since 1991, a new and unique identity has been carefully forged. Croatians are proud of their beautiful country and with good reason. This unique tour combines the joys of cruising to some of the gems of the Adriatic, aboard a traditional boat, with the delights of cycling through a timeless landscape. With over 1000 islands to choose from we've based our cruise itinerary around some of the 'classic' islands off the southern Dalmatian Coast.

We visit villages in which people work their own vineyards, olive groves and orchards; and where home-pressed ham, smoked cheese, marinated fish and dried figs are offered for sale. This closer look at Mediterranean life will be complimented by having the chance to admire some of the best-preserved Venetian buildings in Europe. Beginning in Dubrovnik, without doubt one of the 'must see' sights anywhere in Europe, we then cruise and cycle our way through the stunning islands of the Dalmatian Coast visiting such gems as Mljet, Korcula and Sipan. Combining beautiful scenery, traditional pastimes and millennia of history, these tiny islands offer an insight into a lifestyle not to be found outside this historic and beautiful region.

Accommodation is in small twin cabins with washbasins, showers/toilets are shared between cabins. Our boat is equipped with a kitchen, dining room with bar, and spacious sundeck. This truly is a unique opportunity to see for yourself a fascinating country that is once more beginning to discover itself. We cover approx. 100km over 5 days with an average of around 20km per day on undulating coastal roads. Cycling is mainly on surfaced roads most of which are very quiet, though there are occasional sections on busier roads. Inevitably there are some ascents and descents however these should prove little difficulty for the active cyclist.
